Congratulations from CNWE

Congratulations from the Catholic Network for Women’s Equality (CNWE)

On behalf of all CNWE members I would like to extend congratulations to Our Lady’s Missionaries, who are celebrating their 60 this year as a congregation.

Many like Frances Brady, Christine Gebel and so many others are members of CNWE. After gathering last evening at one of their Toronto houses for our monthly CNWE and friends prayer group, I spent part of this morning reading the latest issue of the Scarboro Missions magazine, which is given over to the OLM’s once a year.

I continue to be amazed at the work these women have done around the globe, as well as right here in Toronto–and in spite of facing the realities of an aging group, the service they continue to provide.

We are grateful for their friendship and their participation in the life of CNWE over the years.

We wish them many blessings as they continue to serve and to discern their future. What amazing women. Their gifts are many and diverse and fruitful is their work.

Here is a group that young women could join, knowing that they make a real difference in the life of women and men in various global communities, and that their gifts and individuality are celebrated.

I too feel very grateful for the members of Our Lady’s Missionaries I have met over the years, and though they are few in number, I have long felt amazed and grateful for the width and depth of their commitments and their influence.

Thank you too Christine for your thoughtful reflection on a possible future for Our Lady’s Missionaries – and the courage and candour with which you are living that reality.

In the Congregation of which I am part, we had a gathering a couple of years back, where we came to a place of acknowledging and embracing the grace and gift of fewness. We too are not so many as we once were – and we want to live whatever the future holds with joy and vitality. Thanks to Our Lady’s Missionaries for living that grace for 60 years. Congratulations! And every good wish for all the life that is to come, in whatever form it takes.
