A Day of Celebration

By Sr. Myra Trainor, olm

Our celebration on the Feast of the Annunciation, March 25th was a joyful day as we recalled Fr Dan and his dream for OLM’s. We feel he would be proud of us who spent many years fulfilling our mission work and his dream.

It was also the day we welcomed home our sisters from Nigeria who with great courage and sorrow closed their mission there.

Our dedicated Associates renewed their commitment to the charism of olms continuing to carry it into their lives and their mission.

After a wonderful Liturgy presided by Fr. Ken Decker, we continued to celebrate with a festive supper and then entertained ourselves with a lively singsong and even a bit of dancing.

March 25 was a special occasion for the OLM community, it having been the solemn feast day of the Annunciation of Our Lord. The Sisters and their friends gathered at the main house on Leander Court, beginning with a Mass by Fr. Ken Decker of the Basilian Fathers.

During the Mass the OLM Associates also took part in a re-commitment ceremony expressing their desire to continue to support and be part of the congregation’s greater community. The Associates were: Monica Donovan, Gemma Labitan, Gloria Caronan, and Maria Teresa Velaso.

The Sisters shared a meal with their guests, who included Fr. Mike Traher of
Scarboro Missions, Sr. Janet Fraser of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto, a congregation that holds significance in the OLM’s history, Jasmin Caronan who is Gloria’s niece, and her fiancee Vincent Domey.

After dinner, the Sisters sang “golden oldies” and reminisced about the beginnings of their community. A good time was had by all.
