Our Lady’s Missionaries have been lending support to a project spearheaded by the Sisters of St. Joseph, Toronto:  Sponsoring two Syrian Families.  One family escaped from their house in Homs and flew to Jordan in April 2012.  They have finally arrived in Canada and were welcomed for a visit to our Leander house on the 4th of September.

Together we got to know the family and learn about Syrian culture.  Before beginning our barbecue supper, we listened to the Harmony Prayer Song which expresses the need of reconciliation in the midst of conflict and the desire to build peace and live in dialogue with God, self, the other and all of creation.

Our supper conversation led us to learn more about the parents and their children’s interests and how they are adapting to their new life in Canada.  We learned that Dad plays the lute and hopes to find one to use here.

We also learned that one son is in Turkey and wishes to reunite with the rest of his family after he completes his studies there.  He is also a musician and has uploaded videos of his songs on YouTube which we eagerly watched together and in silence…  with a deep understanding that in learning more about each other we build peace in our world.
