On July 4th OLMs were delighted by a visit from one of the Nigerian mission’s dearest friend, Bishop Peter Adoboh from the Diocese of Katsina-Ala, Nigeria.  Upon his arrival, he met with the sisters who had been missioned in Nigeria and they shared tears and laughter telling stories of the people with whom they have worked and shared life in many different ministries.

He was then welcomed by the sisters at our Rosalind house with a barbecue in the evening.  On Sunday, July 10th we all gathered in thanksgiving for a Eucharistic celebration at our central house.

The OLM sisters who lived in our mission in Nigeria, felt reconnected to the many Nigerian friends to whom they had to bid farewell when they left in 2009.  Bishop Peter’s visit deepened their gratitude for so many friendships that have been seasoned with love, solidarity and faith.

Becoming Neighbour 076Becoming Neighbour 047

Canada Day brings people from sixteen different countries together in High Park Forest as Becoming Neighbours community.  This annual celebration is always a time to remember to rejoice, to gather as multi-cultural community and celebrating with Latino cuisine, dancing to the music from African drummers, and creative artworks.

This Diocesan Ministry is a companion programme in which immigrants and refugees are matched with members of religious congregations and their associates.

We were warmly welcomed by the team; Lois Anne, Tina, Louise, and Fr. Peter as we reconnected with friends we hadn’t seen for a year, sharing hope-filled stories of families, works, studies and other new challenges and blessings.

The children were delighted with colourful balloons and creative paintings as their way of expressing their own impressions of Canada as home.

At the end of the gathering, another way of revitalizing our friendship was marked with the generosity of friends who donated loaves of bread for us to take home.

We remembered those who weren’t able to come but were with us in solidarity of spirits as we bade farewell with deepest gratitude.

Becoming Neighbours Visit

Monday, July 4th, 2016

The weather was beautiful and the company was enriching as the Latino Women’s Group of Becoming Neighbours visited Our Lady’s Missionaries at our central house last Saturday, June 25.

After introductions were made, we enjoyed songs…

This was followed by a pot luck barbecue. Our Lady’s Missionaries is grateful for the friendly visit. To find out more about Becoming Neighbours, a program founded by women and men’s religious congregations in Toronto, go to:
