Blessings from Our Lady's Missionaries

Blessings from Our Lady’s Missionaries

As Our Lady’s Missionaries gather on the eve of the New Year to celebrate Eucharist together, we will be celebrating the arrival of a New Year and all that comes with it… a fresh beginning with new hope.

And we hold the world in prayer…

…peace for all troubled peoples and places

…wisdom and discernment for all leaders

…love & generosity among all, especially for those in greatest need

May the New Year, 2014, be filled with many blessings

for you and all you hold dear!

A Christmas Blessing

Sunday, December 15th, 2013

“O sing to the Beloved a new song,

for Love has done marvelous things!

By the strength of your Indwelling Presence,

we, too, are called to do great things”

Psalm 98(Nan Merrill)

May we discover and deepen this love that lives in our hearts.

This love will empower us to reach out

with compassion and forgiveness to our families, friends,

community and our world.

Let this Christmas Spirit fill our hearts with Peace

as we rejoice with all of creation.

Honorary Degree for Sr. Susan Moran, olm

Thursday, December 12th, 2013

For OLMs November 11, 2015 was a special day to remember. Sr. Susan Moran was honoured once again for her work with the homeless poor by St.Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto where she received an Honorary Degree of Sacred letters conferred by His Eminence Cardinal Thomas Collins. It was the first time that St. Augustine’s Seminary had the privilege of conferring such a recognition which made this ceremony all the more meaningful.

Susan gave the Convocation address speaking eloquently about the needs of the homeless emphasizing the shame that is ours as a developed society, that there is even such a situation as homelessness in our midst.

We are proud that Susan does shine a light on this plight of the poor and, with her; we pray that our city and our world will work toward greater compassion and justice for all its citizens especially those most disadvantaged by the uneven distribution of material goods.

Becoming Neighbours

Sunday, December 8th, 2013

The Becoming Neighbours’ Biannual Gathering for Companions was held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Paulist Ministry Centre. Although it was a time to gain further knowledge of our ministry, it was more importantly a time to come together and give thanks for the gift of sharing our lives with each other.

We began our time together by listening to Mary’s words, “You see before you the Lord’s servant; let it happen to me as you have said” (Luke 1:38) – words that summarize the deepest possible response to God’s loving action within us. Embracing Mary’s unwavering faithfulness, new Companions were commissioned with a ritual of candles. Gemma Labitan, OLM Partner, was among the newly commissioned. Gemma will now provide a presence and act as a friend, guide and mentor during her newcomer’s initial adjustment to Toronto.

Luiz Lozano,MD presented a short interesting talk on the book “Shadow Economies” in which it explained the difficulties immigrants experience when settling into the Canadian workforce. Following some time discussing and answering questions, we shared pizza, salad, tea, and coffee.

We were reminded at this time, as we approach the season of Advent, may Mary’s “Yes” to God’s love continue to resonate within us. And may we, also say, “Yes” to letting Jesus be born in our hearts and in our world.

First Snow Fall

First Snow Fall

By Sr. Patricia Kay,olm

All the world is monochromatic

… the trees of the ravine dressed in bridal white

No small animal tracks yet on the deck

The squirrels staying snug in their nests

From over the divide a dog barks to greet the winter morning

‘All of creation is clothed with your majesty

Mirroring you Love throughout the cosmos’

Nan Merrill, Psalms for Praying Ps 97
