OLMs Join in International Women’s Day Action

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

March 8 is International Women’s Day,and for many years the Toronto group of the Catholic Network for Women’s Equality has chosen this day to raise awareness about human trafficking because the majority of its victims are women and girls.  Once again, this past March 8’th, 2012 several OLM sisters joined in holding vigil on the corner of Bay and Bloor as people leave their places of work and head home.  First, we gathered together for a prayerful reflection at Loretto College.  Then we silently processed to the South East corner of Bay and Bloor where we held placards of protest against human trafficking and offered people brochures explaining what it is and what we can do about it.  Despite their rush and busy-ness… many people graciously accepted the brochures and took the time to learn more.  If you would like to learn more, go to:

Sr.Elaine’s Birthday

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

“When Moses received the Ten Commandments from God, he was told if people obeyed these laws, they would live a long life.  Sister Elaine is one of these people, for on March 7th she celebrated her 88th Birthday. She began the day with Mass celebrated by Father Roger Brennan,SFM during which some of her favorite hymns were sung.  Following this the Sisters wished her well at a brunch with her special foods.  The afternoon was marked with phone calls from old friends in Japan, the Philippines, England and Canada as well as beautiful flowers coming in from old clients.  She said she loved the day and all agreed she must have kept the commandments all these 88 years.  May she live many more!!!”
